Nate V presented research on the impact vaccination can have on surgical outcomes in patients that develop COVID-19 acutely after surgery. This presentation reaffirms the significant impact postoperative COVID-19 can have on the rate of adverse surgical outcomes. Importantly, this research highlights the role of vaccination in mitigating the serious risk associated with postoperative COVID-19. Together, these findings demonstrate a widely available solution through vaccination to improve surgical outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nic presented his research analyzing data released by Turquoise Health to determine price variation across common surgical procedures in the United States. This research is important for determining hospital compliance to the 2021 Price Transparency Rule that mandates hospitals to release pricing for their procedures and identifies previously uncharacterized disparity in the price of surgical procedures across and within hospitals.
