Nathaniel Verhagen

Biography

Nathaniel Verhagen is a fourth-year medical student at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Originally from Brookfield, WI, he attended UW-Madison, where he earned a degree in Pharmacology-Toxicology. Nate's early research focused on the impact of tumor microenvironments on cancer immunotherapy.

Nate's current research is within the Division of Surgical Oncology. There, he has conducted extensive research using advanced data analytics and machine learning to study the impact of COVID-19 on surgical outcomes.

Alongside his primary research, Nate has an interest in large language models, envisioning their integration into surgical research and education. This interest has materialized into the development of several clinical education tools leveraging artificial intelligence. He hopes to pursue an academic career in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery.
